Football League tweeted a link to its analysis of attendances home and away in last few years. Headlines for us are our crowds dropping year on year. 3k down in 5 years. One of the most popular away grounds in terms of away fan numbers. And more than 1 in 10 who go to home games go away. Increasing number and 4th best in division on that stat. Away support dropped below 1000 average a couple of years ago though. Large cities dominate so they can't really brag there.
1 in 10 away not bad at all really. I know our attendances could be better, but considering the size of some of the cities (e.g. Leeds, Birmingham) we do well when it comes to city/town population to attendances
To take the 4th highest percentage away from home with us is pretty good. While we may not have many fans, the ones we do have are committed to following our team. The likes of Brighton and Derby are nowhere to be seen on the list. If you rank the teams currently in the Championship you've got: 1. Leeds 2. Doncaster 3. Bournemouth 4. Wednesday 5. Barnsley 6. Huddersfield Yorkshire's done quite well there. http://www.football-league.co.uk/staticFiles/72/bd/0,,10794~179570,00.pdf
We took 4,058 to the sty, they say our highest away support was Huddersfield. Find a few errors in those figures the football league give out.
Backs up what we already know. We a have small, but very loyal bunch of supporters. I'd like to see a table put together of all national clubs and the relation of their home attendance to the population of the metropolitan area (catchment area and saturation of rival clubs would ideally be considered but don't know how you could accurately calculate this). I reckon we'd rank pretty high, particularly in comparison to the likes of Leeds who have five or six times the population of Barnsley in the vicinity but don't draw crowds that are significantly greater.
