just over 8000, not sure of the bristol support, rotherham got over 11k fans in, i know it was a yorkshire derby and still the novelty of the new stadium , but jeez, league 2 rotherham getting 3000 more than us? i dread to think what the peterboro crowd will be on a tuesday night soon, especially after another home game a few days before? think the club need to have a quick re-think about a possible 2 match ticket offer without obviously upsetting the season ticket holders
Or maybe more of these armchair fans should have bought season passes at outstanding value!! Barnsley people need to support the CHAMPIONSHIP club while they still can!!
i cant afford it! simple probably missed 5 or 6 homes last season + did maybe 5 away days out, but just need to tighten my belt.
then you probably paid more than what a season ticket cost anyway..also wernt the club offering somekind of finance scheme for this season.
circumstances change, don't want to commit to the finance, but that's my own personal situation anyway, but know of a few who simply now can't justify spending £28 + the sundries to watch us week in week out my point is, the average bloke will struggle to pay £56 to watch us play ipswich/peterboro out of the the same pay packet
I'm sure Bradford took a hell of a lot more fans than Bristol City did too, not a short trip for them.
i did make that point, but dare say there was still more home fans at rotherham than oakwell yesterday (i didn't go btw)
rotherham utd charge 20 quid on the day...would this be enough to temp those back who wont go because of our prices...rotherham is a town with a simular financial situation to us,so if this would get people back then maybe the club should try it for at least the run up to xmas, then we could see if it has any effects...i personally dont think the club has that much to loose, its obvious the current prices arnt fetching many pay on the gate supporters in.
my mate paid £2 more than we charge to watch Man City yesterday, also worked out cheaper for him and his kid than it would have here, put that into perspective too??
Unfortunately (or not), there are sometimes far more important things in ones life than going to watch Barnsley. Partner/Family/Kids/Employment/Bills etc etc and so on. And nobody can justify to me, the current £28 entrance fee. It was £16 to watch Bristol 2 years ago at Oakwell, £30 last year, £28 this. There seems to be this argument, that because there aren't many POTD supporters, that the club are bound/entitled to charge over the odds. Well I know plenty of lapsed ST holders, lapsed POTD supporters, who just can't justify paying nearly £30 for a game of football. It's obscene, and nobody can alter my opinion on that. The ST price is fair (its about £15 a game). But not everybody can afford to shell out for one in a lump sum. And neither can everyone afford to set up a direct debit paying it off in installments. Then, there are many who can't commit to one, due to the reasons I stated at the start of this post. So, I don't like the attitude of some, who try telling others what they can or should do. Twenty is plenty, and if all home games were priced at that, I am sure more lapsed supporters would be more inclined to return on a regular basis. For me personally, having not renewed after 18 years of doing so, it cost £28 to get in yesterday, £11 train fare, £15 in ale and food... over fifty quid for a matchday. It's hard trying to justify it to both my other half, and my wallet, when there are so many other things in my life that I deem more important. But, at least I enjoyed the game, the performance, and obviously the result.
that's easy to say after the fact, but when it gets to 12pm on matchday, do I think "spend £46+ on what could be a crap game v's an average team" or "sod it, I'm nearly skint, best off trying to pay that overdue bill instead" afraid the latter will crop up a bit more now. another thing that could apply to some, is that if the dad/mam takes 1 kid to game, they could also have another who isn't into footy, or U5 and they feel obliged to spend the same again, thus choose something more working class family orientated, which watching barnsley these days certainly isn't!
Completely see your point, but my post was aimed at Ryhilltyke who can afford it, but doesn't go because of last season's performances. I was just pointing out the performances at home this season have been much, much better. So Far.
If you can't afford the reasonably priced season ticket up front and you can't afford the monthly installments then what can the club do? If people want to watch Championship football then they have to pay the going rate and the going rate is rarely less than £25. That's all there is to it.
Great points by Korky and Merlin that I'd like to agree with. It's not as easy as choosing to go to each and every match or not. I'd dearly love to get a season ticket but I simply can't afford it. I'm unemployed and can barely afford food/the leccy bill, let alone £300 on a ST. Plus I may have to accept a job which requires me to work weekends, in which case it has been a waste of money. As it is I'll get to what games I can and pace myself, but £25is an awful lot so it won't be many. I dont think it's a coincidence that attendances are falling when we're in the middle of a deep, deep recession which has hit Barnsley and the surrounding area particularly harshly. I just hope that people can understand that some things in life are more important than football and must come first, and that many people who would love to go can't.
