It is refreshing to hear a manager seemingly without ego, who clearly wants the best for the club and doesn't talk in cliche. I hope he's with us for longer than we usually give our managers.
Nice to hear no mention of "special human beings" or calling players by a nickname to try and be one of the lads.
Best interview from a Barnsley manager I've heard since, well, I was going to say since the last time Danny was here, but Harry Bassett was value for money too. Harry and Danny have very different personalities, but they both treated press interviews in the same way: no ********, no ******* moaning, no cliché ridden drivel, a genuine attempt to answer all questions thoughtfully and honestly, to engage with the interviewer and the audience and above all to appear positive, to sound like they care about the job they're doing and the club they work for and to believe they can move things forward. Proper interviews from proper football managers. That's probably a bit unfair on Mark Robins, who is a decent manager, but was always guarded and somewhat dour, and Andy Ritchie who is a likeable bloke but maybe didn't have what it takes at this level. It's what happens on the pitch that counts, but it feels so good to have someone in charge who believes he can do it and makes you believe he can do it too. No excuses, none of this **** that we can't compete and we barely deserve to be here, just a positive attitude and an attempt to give it his best, done with a smile on his face. You can shove your tightrope walking with your hands tied behind your back up your fat ******* arse.
Agreed. Good to finally just hear some straight talking. All that said, I'll be judging on actions this time round, not words. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A guy at the meeting last night hit the nail on the head, he said that when listening to the past managers talking about doing as good as they can with what they've got and that we should be thankfull for where we are etc. etc. He replied that he always thought if thats what you think then why the bloody hell are you here.
Not sure if you went last night but that's exactly how he made me feel. We've had a few weeks now where he's kept his powder dry as he didn't know the squad and what their strengths and limitations are. But now I think he's pretty much there- he's worked out who's pony and who can haul us out of this mess, and his interviews show. He comes across really confident, in the team he's building and especially in his own ability. I often walked away from Hill and Flicker meetings feeling confident. But I now realise that's because I liked them, and I liked what they said. Not because I believed in what they said. Danny is different class and he's the first manager that we've had where I truly believe what he's saying (well since he was here in the 90s).
I've said this before, but I'll repeat it here. I normally hate listening to manager interviews as they make me cringe (no idea why), but I love listening to his! He sounds really honest and straight talking. His pub comment made me giggle too.
