What else stands out is that there is a peak during seasons after a successful campaign the year before. 96/97 11356 97/98 18449 - Promoted last season 98/99 16269 99/00 15412 00/01 14465 01/02 13323 02/03 9758 03/04 9620 04/05 9779 05/06 9045 06/07 12733 - Promoted last season 07/08 11452 08/09 13189 - FA Cup semis last season 09/10 12964 10/11 11856 11/12 9897 Also you'll notice that our ticket sales always reduce the following seasons until a major event happens again, with exception to 04/05. It's not all about cheap tickets, some people only follow us when things are going well.
Kids free season tickets started in 08/09, thats why it peaked, its been on a downward spiral for years. Folk get bored of a relegation battle year after year.
Despite what Don Rowing may say, ticket prices have a significant influence on attendance. BFC started their £28 entrance policy at a time when we had a 3rd/4th division manager (Keith Hill) who was signing lower league players, yet the fan base was expected to shell out one of the highest entrance fees in the Championship to watch lower class football. Couple this with the fact that money was starting to get real tight in the local area.......so it's easy to see why attendances fell. Also look at this wider...... (1) we sell Butterfield, Vaz Te, Stones for a £4-5 million kitty and re-invest nothing in quality players (2) we invest nothing into Oakwell (feels like a company going close to bust as there is zero improvement, in fact decline) (3) we cannot attract investment despite widely publicising that we are for sale (4) we could not attract our no 1 and no 2 manager choices who publicly reject us, leaving Flicker the last option (doing a first-class job) (5) we do not communicate with the regular fan base and potential fan base (6) our Marketing is zero/zilch/nothing/**** all The Club is being run down and has been for a few years and the fans/public can see this. You will always get your never-say-die fans paying for ST's, but the way the Club has been run is a very short-termist view and it is telling in the reduced attendances. I've had a ST for >25 years and I'm contemplating next season, whether we stay up or go down, because the bigger picture is we are actually declining as a Club and nothing appears to be changing to reverse this trend.
Barnsley started quite well. They were a win away from the play offs. i will say it again. Barnsley started very well. Wins at Reading Peterborough and leicester away. Lots of very good wins at oakwell. So you say Keith Hill was so bad but he and his assistant changed two very talented players that weren't performing to the levels they should in to players that a lot of teams wanted. The other day Vaz Te started and scored in a 2-2 draw with the best team in the premier league 2012-2013. I would bet Vaz Te would say a lot of thanks to keith Hill for that. Oakwells a nice stadium. Compare to Leeds, Hillsborough, Turf moor, Ashton Gate and even Bloomfield road. It's nice. I look around oakwell and has someone who likes an away match i wish i was travelling to oakwell then some of the stadium's i have. And, so. There loss.
Hemsworth....what you're saying then is that BFC are doing well? As much as I love the club, I feel we are attempting to tread water and are slowly sinking..........my opinion.
Have a look at them pre strike and let anyone tell me again she did owt good.. 21st best supported side in the Football League...
