Took an hour off gardening and turned on the tdf, I've no interest in the race at all but thought I'd have a look at the scenery from the air as the route passes through a lot of places I go walking, stunning. But I had to shake my head as the commentators couldn't resist a couple of patronising comments, ie, the cobbled streets remind me of the hovis advert, and a few others along those lines, then as the helicopter flew over Flouch/Langsett and some body had laid out the letters BAAARNSLEY in a field, brilliant but then the commentator surpassed himself and said look how thats spelled, I wonder if it's a local joke. No you fcking numpty it's not, we're taking the piss out of the likes of you and you don't even realise it. Just remember, if it's not from Yorkshire it's *****.
Whover did that ought to get the freedom of the borough. Doubt we would have got a mention otherwise. Enjoyed most of it, but it went downhill when it entered the land of the massives.
To be fair I'm 52 and growing up aint on my agenda either.......no offence mate...by the way names Tony.
and what bloody hills they were, I wouldn't get up some of them in my Fecking Mondeo....In fact It'd probably struggle down em an all.
As I said, I'm not bothered about race but bll00dy eck, the way they went up them hills was unbelievable, you don't really get a true idea of how steep they are on the telly but having walked those areas I can tell you they are steeper than steep.
No real interest in the overall TDF but watched most of today as the stunning scenery shown was brilliant for when laid on the sofa nursing a hangover. The adverts were p*ssing me off a bit though, seemed to go on for ages and a few breaks seemed to be in very quick succession. Noticed they didn't get the 'baaarnsley' thing either, suppose that's more of a Yorkshire joke as opposed to a national one.
65mph down towards Woodhead from Holme Moss. But they cut to an ad before it showed them make the hairpin turn right at the bottom.
I don't get the issue with the Hovis advert being mentioned. If that's what it reminds them off, doesn't really matter? It was a pretty northern advert with a cobbled street, so they're hardly taking the piss.
It is not northern though at all mate, its in Dorset !! http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...arl-Barlow-returns-cobbled-hill-40-YEARS.html
I thought the whole itv commentary showed a refreshing lack of ignorance and patronizing of Yorkshire we usually expect from national broadcasters. They obviously knew the areas well and recognised all the places. I thought they were spot on, but some people from Yorkshire seem to have a degree in taking umbridge.
