Would like to hear the thinking behind that. They made a big thing about switching from rolling contracts when they gave Frodo a 3-year deal..
Think a rolling contract just means he always has 1 year left on his contract. So we'll always get compo or always have to pay him out. Makes sense. Wish players contracts were the same so you never lose anyone for free!
And found themselves not being able to fire LJ, without the massive payout. I previously thought that of it ever turned sour for Hecky, he would stay at the club in a previous role. But suspect now he's gone this far, that may no longer be tenable. Let's hope that scenario doesn't happen any time soon.
a 3 year fixed term contract would very rarely result in a payment of the balance of the contract. It is the notice provision that's relevant, and if it is 12 months (which it usually is), then 12 months is what is payable subject to mitigation...........which is exactly what a 12 month rolling contract is. You could have a 5 year fixed term with a 6 month notice period for example. Anyway, it matters not. Well done Board and well done Hecky. You Reds!
The error in thinking, IMO, was the 3 year contract that LJ received. 12 month rolling contracts seem to me to be a perfectly sensible option for both parties, so I'm glad to see us return to these.
