As far as I'm concerned. Can't understand why he would want to leave the English league for a third rate European league in a country teetering on the edge of economic collapse.

Chance to play in UEFA competitions? I don't think the situation in Greece will affect him. It's not a great league but their top teams are a good level. Looking at the performance of their national side they are producing just as good footballers as us too.

Other than that I agree with you.

There's no brass in the league though. Of the eighteen clubs in the top division 11 average less than 2,000. Only two average more than 10,000 and Panathinaikos int one of them.

He'll be offered a contract which he'll accept, if that happens then there's enough brass in the league for Luke Steele. The rest is meh for Steele. He gets to play in a top flight, in the sun, on a contract that suits, for a club with a good chance of getting European football. Sideways step at worst, slightly upwards IMO.

Might be a different story if we were still in championship. But we aren't.

Agree Conan, not a country I want to visit never mind live. He agree a contract with them but I wouldn't back on them paying the full contract.
The Greek economy shrunk by 0.9% in the first 1/4 of 2014

Great country to visit as is most of that area if you can avoid the Brits. I'd imagine daily life is a struggle for many Greeks these days and, although this won't affect Steele directly, I can't see paying fifteen euros to watch football being high on their list of priorities. Can't be much fun playing at AEL Kallonis in front of 1,200.

So leaving a team in the 3rd tier of a domestic competition and joining a team who are straight into the final play-off round for the champions league and compete for domestic honours each season, is a backwards/sideways step?

    Wow, just wow.

Incorrect I'm afraid. They go to the third qualifying round where they will doubtless come up against superior opposition and get knocked out. He could challenge for honours at Oakwell. He could join The New Saints and challenge for honours. About as much kudos as the Greek league.

Agree Conan again. All these people mentioning the champions league. It's funny but means nothing. Teams in Wales and Ireland join the early round of the Champions league too. Celtic are in it.

    The leagues very two tiered.
Theres the good teams and then the teams like the Greek team along with Romanian, Norway teams.
Kim Christian joined one of these second team teams or was at one before joining Barnsley.

:) yes they do go into 3rd qualifying round, but the 'New Saints' comment is ludicrous. I stand by my statement, this is not a backwards/sideways step for Luke Steele.

Chance to broaden his horizons, compete for honours and enhance his reputation.

I can't think of that as a backwards step from Barnsley.

Playing in front of less than 2,000 eleven times a season. I'd call that a step backwards but to each his own.

He will be a forgotten man. He may broaden his horizons but do you see him visiting the Parthenon and eating dolmades or playing on his PS4 and eating McDonald's?

I don't really know him, but from what I'm told he's a very bright, articulate and well travelled lad.

Good luck to him I say.

Probably lower levels of unemployment in Barnsley.
