    How does this work?

Last King Of Scotland and The Queen are both nominated for the Best Film and Best British Film Awards. LKOS wins best Brit Film and The Queen Best Film.

    Different people vote for them?

    or

Some of the people who thought LKOS was the best British film thought that another film was the best overall (i.e. a non-British one) whereas people who liked The Queen as British film also thought it the best overall.

If you see what I mean

Possibly... but I think you have to be an academy winner to vote (like the Oscars)

See what you mean.. the other thought I've just had is that the nominees were different, so people may have voted for say Babel as best film and LKOS as best brit.

Not seen the Queen- but seen Last King Of Scotland and Forrest Whittaker was superb. Although my best british film which I have seen this year is Children Of Men followed by Red Road.
