Maybe I should have fit this into one of the clever tactical threads, but I'm not that clever, so sorry. It occurs to me that if the gaffer is set on a new 3-4-3 with the forwards fairly narrow, it might be worth checking Mike out in the front 3 before consigning him to the scrap heap? To my mind, he's always shown the right level of effort and work rate for the press, the biggest issue has been giving he ball away in daft areas and a lack of end product. It seems possible to me that playing higher in a front 3 could solve the former, and give him a chance to show if he can improve the latter?
Not for me. Even Stendel couldn’t bring himself to pick Bahre every week, even in League One. He’s well below the standard we need in the Championship.
Some nice touches. But I’m not sure I’d pick him to make that formation fit. . (I assume you mean just behind the front 2) I think we have the possibility of giving Mowatt the responsibility of moving forward a tadge more. With Styles. Taking up Mowatts more defensive requirements.
I don't know how anyone can make that claim with certainty, though I agree there's a lot of room for doubt. I guess I'm just suggesting we try him out before writing him off completely. Before joining us, the highest level he'd played at was the 2.Bundesliga. He showed enough quality and maturity to play in league 1, which is definitely a step up from that level. He struggled in the Championship last year for sure, but that again was by far the highest level he'd played at. At 25, surely he's worth another go in a system that might suit him much better, having had a year to work at his game?
Yep, that's an option worth trying too. I'd also back Styles to excel in a role further forward, if asked to do so
Keep him ticking over because come January we won't hang on to James and Mowatt will be sold to stop him leaving next summer for nothing.
Hi The exact same thought occurred to me - he’s very capable and can produce those quick slick passes. I also think he hasn’t been given the opportunities he deserves and was part of a winning formula for us. I would give Magic Mike a chance.
Like styles scrapping in midfield, winning tackles and pushing play forward...better at it than Mowatt who's more skill than physical presence. that would push styles behind Mowatt so the point that Bahre could fill in for Mowatt is possible because he would have cover...he does have some nice touches but would be a sub for me..
I'm hoping the new gaffer will at least take a look at Bahre - might as well, we're still paying him! A few injuries and we might need to bring him in
We got no bids for him. Someone will bid for him on the cheap in January and we will sell him to at least get something for him. Then the board will get blamed for selling him on the cheap instead of Mowatt for dragging on his contract negotiations so long.
might be worth a chance in this crowd less environment, must be hard to play as a young player with the boo boys waiting to pounce on your first miss placed pass
I think Mowatt’s playing a dangerous game of bluff. I can’t see the club panicking. He wants to stay but is holding out for more cash. No one else is rushing to buy him, remember he has to agree to sign for someone else, he’s not going to go to Rovrum for 500k just because we want ‘something’ for him. Someone has to want him and be prepared to offer him personal terms better than we have.
I don't blame any player who gives their all while wearing a reds shirt. And he does do, if he goes on a free I dont think he owes us anything. I'm hopeful though that now Cauley has signed he might follow suit.
Doesn`t know what defending is, gives away silly free kicks, cant do more than 70 mins sometimes 20 plays in fits and starts, and didn`t even shine in League one, get rid a.s.a.p. Backward step if he even considers him IMO.
He's no good, he's no good, baby he's no good. I really thought he'd become Stendel's linchpin in the Championship. I was wrong. A few deft flicks does not make a championship footballer. A worse show pony than George Moncur.
