Enamel dish? Surely that would break your teeth?
I would substitute the dish for Warburtons Toastie bread, the tomato with Red sauce and the cheese with bacon.

My Mum use to do that for us in the 1950's and 60's.
I remember her cooking it for my Dad at about 9pm before he started the night shift at Burrows buses in Wombwell. He would go to work with bread and dripping for his snap.
It was an important part of the working class diet then.
Well it was in our Street.

Whats he trying to say about you Ali?? Johnny Coachman? Ali was brought up yonks after the 50's and 60's.
Shame on you Johnny.

RE: Whats he trying to say about you Ali?? well I was served that in the 60's n 70's and I'm still partial to bread and dripping. But only if it has brown jelly fromt bottom o't pot and its sprinkled wi sea salt... bliss
