....is being touted if England win. Presumably it would just be bank holiday for England and the Scots, Welsh and Irish would have to carry on as normal
    :)

I don’t see how there can call it so late, if it’s the following week seems pointless

I really hope there isn't. I love football but it seems wrong to honour the England men's team in such a massive way for winning a few games of football but not honour the women when they did or Olympians when they do or cricketers or rugby players etc.

Not bothered at all about the football, but always up for another bank holiday! If the Scottish and Irish get it as well then that would sting though - they get more than us as it is.

Far too short notice even though he expected Sunak to do one.

I’d agree with one for a World Cup but the Euros don’t feel special enough.

Trouble is with ideas like this. It costs some businesses and employees in most cases, money they can ill afford to lose. In effect time off without pay.

You sure about that. Holidays in general I mean ? They do have more bank holidays but only as part of their legal full entitlement of 28 days if full time. Only other holidays I'm aware of that top that are eg. Length of service.

I get that and pointed it out in my post. But the legal requirement of total number of days is 28.
    Eg
    8 + 20
    9 +19
    10 + 18.

I personally had a total of 37 days paid if based on 8hr working day.
    I actually worked 9.25 hrs 4 days over 5 mon - fri. And officially got 24 + 8 off.
This only applied to my section. Within YW. Having struck deals when outsourced. And then back in house.
Whilst outsourced the rest of the workforce in YW lads n lasses on the floor and in general got mugged. Sold a day for a pittance. Voted on by the workforce. Most of whom accepted the offer. I'm guessing Juddy was fuming.

    Agree 100%
    Ridiculous idea

in any event there is no statutory entitlement to bank hols. Entitlement to holiday is 5.6 weeks which is often inclusive of the ‘normal bank holidays’ in the contract of employment

    Bah humbug

    Correct. Normal for most. 5.6 x 5 days. 28.

I suppose that comes down to popularity. Which I agree should not really be the criteria for an honour, but the purpose of a day off is for the masses to enjoy it which does come down to popularity.

Personally think it's a bad idea due to the short notice and the financial impact this would have on people and businesses.
