Other night watched extended highlights of this match and it just re-emphasises how crap we are these days. Good passing, good shooting, movement, strength, aggression and intelligence. Sometimes one forgets that we did actually play good footy once. Ah well... Sentimental moan over.
If Higgy had stuck away that penalty just after half time, when he hit the bar, I’m convinced we’d have gone on to hit 10.
My boss at time was a Town fan and a loud one at that. Took great pleasure in sticking a can of 7 up on his desk early the following Monday morning
I have a relative who took his daughter to the match, one of her early Barnsley matches, if not the very first. At 0-0, she spilt a hot drink over herself and they ended up in the first aid booth under the East Stand to sort out the minor scalding she'd suffered. 6 goals later he got back to his seat, missed the lost of them.
The first half performance was the best I've ever seen from a Reds team in almost 60 years of following them.
Barnard's goal is the best I've ever seen for the Reds in 40-odd years. Nostalgia ain't what it used to be....
Ah yeah your right still great times and great squad i was only a young en really back then 14 used to look foward going to oakwell midweek with players like barnard, higgy, shipperly, dyer, morgan that was a team compared to today imagine that team back then playing us now.
We hit the woodwork at least twice and Sean McClare missed three dead easy chances. We should have reached double figures easily and would have been fully deserving of it.
By the Hendrie realised Sean Mclare was total toilet it was too late. Shocking waste of a season. Should have brought in a decent manager and we'd have gone straight back up. Hendrie weakened the squad falling out with Marcelle and Fjortoft and signing crap like Kevin Richardson, Turner, Tony Bullock, Don Goodman and Deon Burton (Both loans).
if that had been scored by a prem player or a brazilian the pundits would still be spunking over it now
I can't watch old highlights anymore, all it does is emphasise how utterly abject we are at the minute. It's no good for my emotional well-being.
How many games did Deon Burton play for us, and which season? I vaguely remember him being at the club but don't remember seeing him in a red shirt..
Great night. Wat a 1st half. One of my best mates is a terrier and he with his bro were in away. I think he left just b4 half time. I remember playing pool with him in town after the match and he was shell shocked. Amazing goal barnards still best ive seen live i reckon. Wish we played half as well these days.
