Do you know how football hooligans evaluate each other ???

............its on the amount of media coverage they get.

That's why clubs like Millwall are on top of the pile - and its simply because over the years they have had most of the media coverage.

All this coverage Barnsley is getting, and has been getting for a while now, is BAD BAD news for the average Barnsley fan.

Basically because other fans from other clubs will be looking at this media coverage and be gearing themselves up to have a go.

I hope I'm wrong here........but mark my words

These people don't evaluate anything; they're incapable of doing so. They thrive on a mob culture of disrespect and outdoing each other in degrees of stupidness. Unless I've been very unlucky on my less and less frequent away days in recent times, they are far from the small minority referred to on here. I can be a knobhead with the best of them but we're talking pure scum here. The world would be a better place without them. Yours Sincerely, SnobOx.

So you thought you'd start another thread on the subject, to make sure it doesn't get any more attention..

There has been dozens of comments relating to this sort of behaviour in the last few days............this is my first comment on the subject

I have to be careful of what I say because past comments I have made on this subject have been misinterpreted by Admin.............but as OxRed says..........'they are far from the small minority referred to on here'.

It's already bad news for fans who simply want to go to a game, have a beer and watch the football.

As for fans wanting to have a go, I'd say that there should be a bit of waste ground somewhere out of town where all the numpties can gather and kick seven shades out of each other. That way they get to show each other how hard they are without their moronic actions having an impact on the enjoyment of everybody else.

If you read the book that Peaky Blinders was based on, this was exactly what used to happen. Rivals meeting on waste ground to sort it it out.

Your reference to kicking things reminded me of something I've been meaning to ask mate, how's the leg? Fully recovered?

YN is right on this, even though it is adding yet more coverage to the subject.

I started going to Oakwell in 1978 / 79. Innocent days and Oakwell was a happy place to be. By the mid-80's it was a nightmare at times, regular trouble in the corner of Ponty and West, trouble on the pitch at times (Middlesboro home) and a regular undercurrent that something was going to kick-off. And the bus / train station could be like the wild west on occasion.

Last season, because my lad is now addicted to following the Reds (daft sod) we saw more games home and away than I have for many a year. Sad to say that undercurrent is back. Games at Donny, Bradford and Oldham spring to mind where 95% of fans were in good humour but 5% - a mix of daft teens and 40-somethings who should know better were there for a reason other than football. Even at home matches, the crowd of Burberry-clad cretins with sheepish looks but still 'brave' enough to blatantly use their mobiles to arrange and even broadcast their imminent 'rumble' is getting more of an issue. They were even out in force at the Hudds home friendly.

Yes, of course there are a core at home who contribute to the atmosphere and generate a bit of noise but I really worry it is going to be an issue for us this season.

    Really ?

My point is, that in the PAST it was an issue, home and away. In the PRESENT I do not want the undercurrent I keep mentioning to take is back to those days.

Thanks for asking. it's going ok, I was discharged from the physio last week, not because I'm fully recovered but because they don't think they can go any further. It seems that I have lost some movement in my ankle but this may never fully recover so I now have to monitor for three months, carry on with self physio exercises and if things haven't improved after three months I need to be referred back to my consultant.

I have always been one of those rebels, always wanting to be different to everybody else, so I don't have any tattoos, piercings or pony tails, strange but it's true. :)

Small steps mate (no pun intended). Keep up the exercises though, its amazing what progress can continue to happen through doing them. You'll be our new right back by end of September.

Thing is that the gangs of lads wanting a ruck never vanished. Theyve always been there.

In seasons gone past there would have been a few posts about there been a bit of aggro under the fly over and forgotten about a week later.

Its more prevalent now as people are bringing into the public eye. In my opinion to further their own agendas and distract from other issues.

Ive never known the fanbase to be as divided as it has been over the last two years and its slowly getting more fractious. More so than the ***** under hill davey. More so than when we were in admin.

    Stronger together my arse.

Some people think by entering a football stadium en masse they have a divine right to venting anger at whoever crosses their path.
