Don't we all... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17757649 Barnsley boss Keith Hill says he has learned a lot from the departure of Ricardo Vaz Te to West Ham. The 25-year-old Portuguese striker moved to the Hammers for an undisclosed fee in January having joined the Tykes on a one-year deal last summer. "It's important when we have good players at the club that we can retain them," he told BBC Radio Sheffield. "In hindsight we would have kept Ricardo, but I don't know what frame of mind he'd have been in." Use accessible player and disable flyout menus He added: "It was difficult because if we'd sold him and gone down then we would have lost a lot more money than we'd have made on the transfer. "We need to look at getting our better players on longer term contracts so that when we sell them it's because it's right for us." The Oakwell side were 14th with 36 points from 27 games when they sold Vaz Te, who had 10 goals from 22 league appearances for the Tykes, in January. Since his departure they have picked up just 11 points from their following 16 matches and only secured their Championship status on Tuesday thanks to Coventry's defeat by Millwall.
Seconded - though I think southampton would probably have doe it for us on the last day its a lot better to be ale to relax now. And if memory serves Hill wasnt happy with the Sale of Vas Te at the time (though partly his own fault for not offering a contract extension earlier - unless that wasnt in his hands either) I think that interview is aimed at Don and Patrick rather than the fans - and I am glad he is starting to fight his corner a bit more - 2 seasons in a row we have sold our best attacker in Jan and it has cost us big time both times
Was always confident we had done enough to stay up personally. Loss of midfield, loss of Vaz Te sick of hearing it, only twice more unless god forbid we actually get summat from one of them games. Roll on next season but at a steady pace through the summer this pre-season please. No rush.
Finally someone at Oakwell has seen the light! "It's important when we have good players at the club that we can retain them," he told BBC Radio Sheffield. "We need to look at getting our better players on longer term contracts so that when we sell them it's because it's right for us."
Re: Finally someone at Oakwell has seen the light! It's only took that someone, what, five decades, to realise this?
I personally think we finally have a manager who can speak his mind. Id put ten bob on him getting a rollocking from above.
Re: Finally someone at Oakwell has seen the light! Don last October from Official Site "We need to create value within our squad, not to sell players, but to enjoy more success for our team, our sponsors and most of all our fans"
