Casualties Heinz Muller, Stephen Foster and Martin Devaney should be fully fit after the summer break.

Goalkeeper Muller will return to Oakwell a week before Davey assembles his players for the warm-up to next year's campaign.

Devaney and Foster are also expected to be available.

Foster tore his calf muscle in a training ground accident, ruling him out of the final two matches of the season.

"It should take about six weeks to heal, I'll be ready for pre-season," he confirmed.

Anderson de Silva is in Spain currently recovering from a knee operation. He will be back in Barnsley for pre-season training but could still miss the start of the season.

Similarly Michael Coulson is expected to be sidelined as he recovers from a surgery.

Foster completed his clean sweep of players of the year awards last night when he collected the Star and Green 'Un prize at the presentation dinner in Sheffield.

The club have their own awards ceremony tonight ahead of the last match of the season against Cardiff on Sunday.

Although Barnsley are safe Davey has stressed that he wants a final win. It's important that we don't rest on our laurels, we want to go there and get another three points to finish as high up the league as we can," he said.

The final match of last season brought Barnsley a 7-0 defeat at West Brom. "That won't happen again," Davey added.

Meanwhile Brian Howard has spoken out to stop speculation about his future.

The star midfieldman, scorer of 15 goals, said: "I'm happy at Barnsley. I like it there. I'm under contract for another year and I enjoying my football there.

"It's been a great season and I'm happy to stay. I'm club captain, which I enjoy a lot and am privileged to have, and I'm enjoying my football.

"I've got a year left on my deal, but hopefully the club will come and we'll talk soon."

He's said he knows he needs to improve the goals for column - he must recognise the obvious lack of fire-power.

The 'strengthening without spending' comment clearly relates to getting Foster, Anderson, Coulson and Muller back fit asap
