BARNSLEY Boys have the chance to reach the NUT English Schools Trophy Final for the first time since 1998. They pulled off a splendid 4-1 win at Darlington in their quarter-final to go into the last four - the first time at that stage since their final appearance eight years ago when they ended up sharing the trophy with Bristol Boys. Barnsley were on the back foot in the opening 10 minutes but they settled and Daniel Barlow volleyed home a Danny Morris cross after 15 minutes to put them ahead. Five minutes later Darlington were awarded a penalty but goalkeeper David Atherton pulled off a tremendous save. It sent Barnsley's confidence soaring and they went two up on 25 minutes when Jamie Hunter fired in from close range. Ten minutes into the second half, Barlow's second – a fine indvidual effort - made it 3-0 and Ashley Ellis made it 4-0 midway through the second half with a 12 yard strike following a pinpoint Morris cross. Darlington's consolation came with five minutes left. Sheffield Under 15s progressed in the Yorkshire Trophy beating Doncaster 1-0 at Balby Carr School. Alex Morris hit the Doncaster bar and the winner came on 40 minutes from Jonathan Askew. Sheffield Under 11s suffered a cup knockout going down 3-1 to Spen Valley in the Yorkshire Cup quarter final, a Cole Bonney 25 yard free-kick bringing Sheffield's goal. Rotherham Under 11s crashed 11-0 to East Cleveland 11-0 in their quarter final clash. Barnsley Under 11s try again following their Yorkshire Cup quarter-final 2-2 draw after extra-time against Bradford at the Dorothy Hyman Stadium. Two down in 27 minutes, Barnsley quickly reduced the arrears when Dan Thornton lobbed the keeper and Dan Woodrow's goal after 50 minutes meant extra-time with Barnsley's Joe Materfield having 'goal' disallowed three minutes from the end. Barnsley Under 14s are in the semi finals of the Yorkshire Cup with a 4-2 extra time win against Spen Valley. Daniel Cooper (15 mins) and Ben Jackson (20) had Barnsley on top. Spen Valley scored in each half to force extra-time which Barnsley dominated, clinching victory through goals from Daniel Heneghan and Grant Darley. Rotherham Under 15s had to be satisfied with a 0-0 draw in the Northern Merit League against West Lancashire. 07 February 2006
