Hasn't mcarthy gone Swindon? And Jordan Williams isn't really a center back.

Lopata out on loan somewhere is my guess before the deadline

McCarthy is only on loan so still on the books.

Agreed re Williams but he's played there all season.

We do have a few in total but not all available. As mentioned, McCarthy is out on loan. Cundy is injured (not sure we’ll ever see him again?). Shepherd and James were more than likely brought in for the development squad, Shepherd has just been thrown in the deep end a bit. Wouldn’t surprise me if he went out on loan before Thursday.

That leaves MDG, Lopata, Pines, McCart. Earl if he does sign. Jordan Williams I imagine will move back to right wing back but cover if we need it.

But Shepherd has been selected over lopata on 3 occasions Carlisle where he almost cost us Oxford away where he almost cost us and Exeter at home. Agreed he isn't ready for league one football and has been thrown in the deep end but why hasn't lopata been selected before him.

I'm not sure what's going on with him. I thought he was doing OK before the shoulder injury, but since returning, he doesn't get a look in.

I think that’s down to us wanting to play a left footer at left centre back.

I would say the 2 left sided would be McCart and Earl (if he does sign). Middle 2 of Pines and Lopata. MDG and Williams for the right side. Of course it doesn’t have to be as strict as that, just more natural positions I’d say.

Isn’t that just a case of different players being suited to different positions. Am sure if it was MDG injured and not McCart then Lopata would come in to play in the middle of the three

Seeing as he is left footed it seems obvious to me.

Cundy is injured and out of contract in the summer so likely not going to play for us again. James and Shepherd were signed to play in the u21s mainly and Williams needs to get back to RWB.

Mccarthy needs to find another club, and suspect he’ll be released from the last year of his contract in the summer.

After watching Shepherd for the past 3 games it seems obvious that he should not be in the starting 11. So left footed or right foot I would upset the balance to bring in a capable replacement.

Lopata is twice the player Shep is (at this point in time). It is Shep who needs sending out on loan; I'd rather aid his development by him having half a season down the pyramid than another half season with us throwing him under a bus. Looked good in spells but clearly not ready.

Lopata looked the part in my opinion.

Who's this Robbie Cundy you've mentioned? Seen his name a few times but never seen him before in my life. Does he even exist?

Surely Earl’s arrival will be as much to play left wing-back as centre half? Especially if we’re to lose Styles this window.

Cundy is out until further notice, McCarthy has gone out on loan, and James is a player for the under-21s. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Shepherd go out on loan now that Pines and potentially Earl are in.

Baffled why Lopata hasn’t been given any game time since his injury. Our best defender in the first dozen games or so.
