Don't know if already mentioned, but don't expect the new build at Barnsley College to go up anytime soon - the funding is not there. The whole situation is a bloody mess - there's loads of Colleges in the same boat, who have spent millions on architects fees, legal fees etc, to get to the point where they are ready to start and they've had the plug pulled 'cos the government has run out of money. But Barnsley are in more trouble than most because of the fact that they have actually started the build process and don't now have the funds to finish it. Article here on BBC web site outlining the mess, with Barnsley in particular mentioned as being in danger of being technically bankrupt. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/7951457.stm and a bloody excrutiatingly hilarious interview with the junior government minister on Radio 4 this morning talking about the mess. http://news.bbc.co.uk/today/hi/today/newsid_7952000/7952174.stm
They don't even need the new building - Waste of cash IMO. Speaking to one of the teachers there the other week, they've managed to accommodate everyone in the 'other' buildings no problem. The new building is suppose to be designed with loads of open space, so it isn't going to have many classrooms anyway. Damn stupid for them to take out massive loans and demolish the old building when they ain't even got funds approved.
