Working in Wakey l'm surrounded by Rugby fans the majority being Cas Tigers fans. One Tiger's fan said to me that Donny Rovers were trying to set up a deal with Tigers season tickets holders to offer them discount tickets for Donny games, l find this strange with Donny having a rugby team in the same league until the Tigers promotion. The supporter informed me that it would never catch on because Castleford people either support Barnsley or Leeds. With our crowds being low couldn't we set up some scheme with Cas Tigers to attract some of their supporters to Oakwell, Castleford and the surrounding area (Pontefract, Knottingley etc) don't have a football team so the majority are Leeds fans. With us doing so well at the moment and a league above Leeds could this be a good catchment area? I'm convinced Leeds run will soon come to an end due to their lack of a squad and having to get loans in everytime a players Suspended/injured, l will like to see how well they do at xmas when suspensions & injuries are coming thick and fast. The club needs to look at surrounding areas to attract more support, the clubs doing well at the moment whilst everyone else is in turmoil, l notice there's a few people on here that post from Cas and the surrounding area.

Its not a bad plan, but in my experience your typicalRugby League fan isn't really interested in football. I used to be an ST holder at Fev Rovers before I moved down south, and there was always rivalry between the two sports which I am sure exits today in some way.
However it may be an idea to test such a scheme ona team like Fev. They have just been promoted and are desperare to up their Season Tickets sales from the 350 odd of last season. If Barnsley and Fev offer reciprocal discounts on STs to each others fans, it may just start a bond which could have mutual benefit.
If its successful roll it out to Cas and Wakefield.

A flat capper then according to the Cas fans..... Apparantly the Fev team all sported flat caps at their game at the weekend too.
I'm from Ponte originally. And to be fair the football support is very mixed. Usual suspects ie Liverpool, Man U, Leeds. Theres loads of Reds fans in Ponte. When I was growing up I decided to support a Local team. Ponte Colls were rubbish, Leeds fans seemed to be all tossers, Donny were really **** so that left me with Barnsley. So I've stuck buy them since 1978. I used to go down the Post Office Road quite often and always ay plenty of Reds shirts there back in the day when Rovers ued to get attendences of 6000 a week Dean
Rovers getting 6,000 a game? Take it were on about Donny? they're struggling to get that these days and thats with 5,000 season tickets. its there highest attendances for years they'll soon be back to 3 - 4,000 when John Ryan pulls out.
RE: Rovers getting 6,000 a game? Featherstone Rovers I meant. I'm talking 15 years ago mind! Donny Rovers? Didnt realise Donny still had a team? Dean
RE: Rovers getting 6,000 a game? Wondered if you meant Featherstone but l just couldn't imagine them getting 6,000!! They won the cup in the eighties or something didnt they? remember going in a pub in feath and it was like there equiv of the Mount (without the yellow walls tho) Donny haven't got a team, they just have a 11 men wearing "Where's Wally" replica shirts getting abused by a load of pikey's week in week out running round a field.
RE: Rovers getting 6,000 a game? Yeah they beat Hull KR at Wembley in 82 or 83 cant quite remember. Fev were one of the top teams in the country up until the super league started. They struggle to get 1500 to a game now. Hopefully they will start to pick up again now theyve got promoted. Even Donnys away shirts a stripey! Dean
being from featherstone i have to say.... if barnslay forged any kind of relationship with castleford i would never go again.
83 was the win. Went to a couple of games when they had Derryck Fox at scrum-half,
was it true that he had man of the match written into his contract to bump his wage up?

RE: being from featherstone i have to say.... Not strictly Cas, if they could forge any ties with Wildcats, Tigers or Rovers and try and get more supporters from that catchment area.
RE: 83 was the win. Foxy was class though. Same happend a bit later with Chris Bibb & Paul Newlove. Seemed the fans favorit always got man of the match. Dean
RE: Wildcats? Wild? Cats? Its Trinity! Not now they're super league and a proposed new stadium in Thornes Park.
RE: Wildcats? Wild? Cats? Its Trinity! Wakefield Trinity Wildcats! WTF was that about. The super league decide to make the sport sound more exciting by adding American style suffixes to the names, but Wakefield already had Trinity, why the need to add another?!
RE: Wildcats? Wild? Cats? Its Trinity! Because Trinity sounds **** at the side of Bulls, Rhinos etc.... what about the american sounding game of cricket? Yorkshire Phoenix eh??? WTF?? Should have been Yorkshire Puddings.
