Alrite guys, I am doing a research project at Uni focusing on Barnsley FC and Identity. How do you think Barnsley FC reflects or shapes the identity of the wider town? Would be interesting to get fellow Barnsley fans' intriguing ideas on the subject. For example when we play Nottingham Forest there is a sense of political identity difference - which is demonstrated through the "scab" chants etc, or the old Toby Tyke badge symbolizing the "British bulldog spirit" of the people of Barnsley. Stu
Bulldog spirit, really; I thought Toby Tyke was meant to represent us as thick dogs, thus reinforcing the stereotype as presented by the national media
There was a student on here about 2 years ago did exactly the same subject as part of their course, Sociology or something. I'm pretty sure it was before the board was overhauled so it may have been lost. Quite a popular thread though I think, so some might remember. There is also a more recent thread on the origins of the Toby Tyke logo, which was also very interesting. And remember, it's not what you research - it's how you research, processes and all that laarrrk.
