The worst season was 1972/73 when we averaged just 2,900 (tier 4), and yes, I was one of them.
So the average home attendance hasnt really changed in the last 6 seasons - it only goes up in the last couple of years due to the contribution of some away teams like Sheff U/Weds, WBA and Leicester who bring a few thousand. (chinny)
Basically we stabilized to our current core fans in 2002 then having the part timers that joined for the Prem season drift away over the previous seasons - last straw being relegation to div 3 - probably picked a few hundered back up when we got promoted but thats all. I was there in the 72 73 season as well - fortunately as I had only been watching for a couple of seasons I didnt know any better
