That's really good. I've forwarded it to a few of my similarly architecturally-inclined friends, even though they don't know anything about Barnsley! Looks like it was part of a series, which I'll definitely check out.

I particularly like the fact that the same film could be made today about many places in the country - not only places like Barnsley, but also much of where I live, Birmingham.

His particular love of "The Belgians" is a bit odd though.

I noted with particular interest "I like Barnsley .... but i wish it didn't look so much of a dump". And it could be so much better.

Yeah was posted a few weeks back, it's an excerpt from one of Ian Nairn's shows where he went all over the country looking at architecture. Really good series as he doesn't just say, "this building is old so should be conserved", he liked modern buildings as well as long as they served a purpose and had some character about them.

There's a brilliant documentary on him floating around the internet, really interesting fella. He liked a drink though and in the mid-70's he disappeared from public view and presumably just got drunk all the time as he died in 1983 of liver cirrhosis, only 52 years old.
