give it back, he got interest that he can keep

why keep it then when they realise and ask for it back and you have spent half of it and they put you in dept

Hmm could they just take it back without asking? What could they do if you were to say no or you can have it back at £100 per week.

Surely couldna be theft if it was them who deposited the money in your account.

It is classed as theft if you do not notify the bank. People have been sent to jail for this.

OK I didn't know that and yet all the bankers who stole money off of all of us are given bonuses and still allowed to walk the streets.

    Just doesn't seem fair.

what is it that's very unfair? a system error has incorrectly deposited £1m into a customer account. it doesn't belong to them. do you really believe the customer should be allowed to keep £1m of someone else's money, that they got in error?

I do the odd bank transfer for various things, although usually only for a few hundred quid, do you think if I put the wrong account number in and I ended up sending some randomer £200 I'd be able to get it back as easy as that? I'd have a job on, and the bank and police would be zero help.

Not sure why it's different just because it's a large sum, obviously the lad did the right thing.

Totally agree with you regards the transfer, but many bankers seem to have got away scot free for the economic errors, or greed, which contributed to the failure of economies on a world wide scale.

When I was traveling round Australia in an old camper van. I gave a lift to this kiwi couple heading up towards northern Territory. Nice pair was with them about a week splashing the cash. Saw them on the news about 6 weeks later arrested in Bali. They'd had 10 million dollars put in their bank account. Cleared it out and legged it. Think theywent to prison not sure they recovered much cash from them.

Donkeys years ago I had six grand deposited in my account. I said nowt then a letter turned up a few days later asking me to call in the bank because they had to have my authorisation to take it back.
