The dross thats left on the last day of the "window", you know like the cut price mangy salad thats left on the shelf 10 minutes before closing in ASDA
I just wonder if it's the image of the town preventing decent player comming here (loans excluded) or the inhability of B F C to sell the club or a weird and wonderful Davey determind at all costs to find a gem in the lower leagues. Or, could there be something in the pipeline which we don't know about.
With no disrespect to Davey (the ****). Barnsley is a difficult club to sell and our recent history doesn't help. If we are to attract a higher calibre player, we would need a higher calibre manager that players at other clubs at this level would want to play for. Davey isn't that. I'm not sure he ever will be either. So while were offering lower then average wages, at a club that has spent 3 years fighting relegation, with a fan base down the bottom end of the league and a manager that potential players are unlikely to have had posters of on their walls when they were kids. I think we'll be lucky to sign a 5 goal a season striker, never mind 20+.
Agreed Jedi. He's had the past couple of months to sort deals that can go through as soon as the transfer window reopened.
Slightly negative thoughts aren't they? What we should be selling them is this:- It's a massive recession. Barnsley have **** all money. But we've learned to cope on **** all. The big time charlies are spending money they haven't got. It's no use signing for those types of clubs. Look up Lehman Bros and see what happened there. You don't want to be throwing yourself out of the top floor of the stadium when it all goes pear shape. Now, accept the decent wage terms we are offering you, enjoy playing your football and try not to get the crowd angry.
i wouldn't be surprised if the BNP votes are having something to do with it If you were a black player would you want to move to the place in the country where one in six of those who voted voted BNP? Along with all our other well documented, much discussed problems with attracting players, I bet it hasn't helped.
Burnley seemed to do alright in similar circumstances 2007/08 Burnley 62 points Barnsley 55 points Similar crowds Little known young celtic manager Unfashionable northern clubs Even the names sound the same
Seem to remember them selling their best player (lafferty) too, then using money wisely. Players will come if the wages are right, and the club is sold to them in the right way.
RE: Burnley seemed to do alright in similar circumstances You're not allowed to be ambitious on here or as a Barnsley fan in general You should be grateful to have a club in the second division and "get behind" all the players regardless of ability and attitude Otherwise you're not a true fan
No............ thing is he seems to get some decent players but I just dont rate him. We all have our own ideas about who he should sign and there are plenty out there, but I would not trust with my money.
RE: Burnley seemed to do alright in similar circumstances You also need to be realistic and patient. Something many on this board are not!
