Another full game for you to enjoy. The opening game to the 1990/91 season. English football was at a all-time high coming off the back of Italia 90 and getting to the Semifinals. A watershed moment for me as this is when I fell head over heels in love with football as apposed to just liking it. I could write all day about this period of time but for now enjoy this game. Cheers KT
Was that the season Brighton knocked us out of the play offs which the last kick of the season, while everyone was on the pitch celebrating at Oakwell?
One of my favourite games this. Two fantastic bullet headers from Cooper and Smith and recall Baker making a fine reaction save from a header. Sunny day, 3 points and we were completely oblivious to how good a season it would turn out to be, despite last minute heartbreak.
The longest walk away from Oakwell that I ever had. We'd even announced dates of the play off matches before Brighton's late, late winner v Ipswich. From joy to despair in seconds......only at Oakwell lol.
My first ever League game when I was 12. Won 1-0 vs Boro, Carl Tiler scored if memory serves me correctly. The hurt never stopped!!
At least we finished in the top 6 a few years later. Shame that was the year you had to finish 5th to make the play offs.
The equaliser was Steve Cooper's last goal at Oakwell. His last ever goal for us was scored in the next game, a 1-0 win at Wigan in the League Cup. And wasn't this Joe Joyce's last game for us too?
Correct regarding Steve Cooper, but I had to check the records about Joe Joyce. He played a further 2 games that season in late November/early December against Wolves (h) and Watford (a)
Yes that Wolves game was on Goals On Sunday. Andy Saville got booted in the back right on the halfway line in front of the Brewery. Wolves lad got sent off.
This was probably my favourite season ever, largely because I was that certain age when all these players were my heroes. It’s a shame we weren’t better away from home because it really was Fortress Oakwell/Battling Barnsley in those days.
My favourite times watching the Reds. I went to every match home and away. Apart from missing us beating Wolves 5-0 away cos I was trialling at Wednesday. Still feel a complete t w a t to this day.
