Alright fella's? First off congratulations on your FA Cup success this season and nice one on your great result last night. I'm a Charlton fan and it looks like I'll be making the long trip to Oakwell from my home on the Isle of Wight and was hoping a few of you could help me! First off, I may well be driving up (not sure yet, maybe train) and was wondering what parking is like for away fans? Where and how? Also, any good boozers, locals and ideas for a night out for before and after a game? What's the majority of Barnsley fans like? OK to talk to about fotty and **** or a bad idea? Looking forward to making the trip and hope a few of you can help me. RED ARMY!
hello there! plenty of parking avaliable around a 10 minute walk from the ground it is sign posted as well. As for the boozers many around the ground are home fans not sure about the away fans though, i think the metrodome which is the leisure complex has a bar which away fans go to and this is litrally 1 minute from the ground
Hi mate, how's it going? Plenty of places to park in Barnsley, there should be signs as you come off the motorway. The Gatehouse is usually a good pub if you're looking for a mix of home and away fans, never any trouble either. We're a friendly bunch of fans, obviously with the exception of a minority of nobheads, like all teams have! As for the night out...just follow the crowds and you can't go wrong!
Cheers for the replies boys. I aint worried about trouble but at the same time I'd rather be able to buy home boys a beer and have a laugh if you know what I mean! Some grounds have been a nightmare for parking but sounds like Barnsley is gonna be easy enough! The Gatehouse? How close to the ground? Rather be in with a mixture, I find the Charlton fans a little boring and they're a bunch of whingers to be honest! Should be a decent game, I just hope we don't lose Sat, then we'll have nothing to play for. Judging by your boys performance last night it's going to be very tough. Hopefully by the time we play you boys will be safe too, be gutted if Barnsley went down, would much rather see the scummers or Leicester go down!
The Gatehouse is a 5minute walk from the ground and it's right next to the train station. I often drink in there myself, always a good mixture and never had any trouble at all. Just a pity the landlord is a Wednesday fan!
The Gatehouse is about a 10 minute walk away from the ground and is in the town centre. If you are having a night out you will enjoy it. If you are coming on the train its probably one of the first thjings you will see when stepping out of the interchange!
10 minutes?! How fookin' slow do you walk? You gotta be really pissed to take 10minutes to walk up the hill.
Gatehouse would be the best bet Directly outside train / bus interchange. Good beer (usually) and 10 mins walk from Oakwell. I usually dont leave for the ground until 2.45pm
RE: 10 minutes?! 5 Minutes! How fooking fast do you walk! Spatacus agrees with me so it must be true!
Spartacus knows nothing Maybe I'm just a fast walker after a few pints...itching to go see the reds "play"
sounds good. Looks like about 30 of us are arranging a coach up! Should be boozy so would be great if we got a bit of atmo going in the pubs beforehand! Hoping to get the boys going with a good vocal performance! What are the Barnsley fans like atmosphere wise?
quiet score and we're noisy, as are most fans i suppose. takes something to get us out of our seats, well the Ponty'ers and the ones having a piss in West Stand anyway
Haha! I'm sure we'll give you all something to cheer about early doors! Just run at Ambrose and you'll be fine!
Charlton at the Valley 1999 - 2000 season - 1st match of season when Mendonca got the hat trick - best atmosphere in a ground ever - awesome. If I lived in London, Charlton would be my team ..... just loved the sense of community. Really friendly. Just like Barnsley.
