Just watched a recording of the game, eighth game before the play-offs , we beat them 3-0 with gallimore and donavan laiking for them.Gave us back to back wins and clean sheets, seven games to go and in third.
What a team we had then, Hignett was amazing. Tinkler cracked in the first ,Ships with the second and Higgy with the third.
Everyman fighting and scraping for it. Morgan was solid,Matty picking up every loose ball, a quick young Barker skipping down the wing,Eaden with the perfect cross, plus Barnards wabble and Dyers offsides kids for a quid...we had it all.
Looked like a team that wanted to go up and I hate to say it (because I think, you'll think i'm haveing a dig..but i'm not.)a far cry from the spirit what we have in the team at the moment .
great game...great team..

I wa at Scout Dike that neet, with school.
Listened to it ont radio while chasing a bit of skirt.

"great game...great team.. " Great manager!
Bassett = best manager since we were relegated. Knew how to sort a team out.

RE: some of basset's signings.... He was hurried into signing these piles of ****. After the play-off defeat he wanted to hand in his notice, but it was rejected. Hence he made hurried signings to replace the quality that was then departing - eg Higgy and Curtis, problies more.
Although I did personally like Mitch Ward. Neil was a trier, just not good enough. Jones and Regan however.....

Bassett's book You read Bassett's autobiography? Makes for inteerstingr eading, well, the bit about us does. About how he could have left us to go to Blackburn during the play off season, but he decided to stay out of loyalty, and then we sacked him. He seemed a bit bitter. He had a few things to say about John Dennis, about the small club mentality being mixed with the sudden aspirations of getting back in the prem.
