http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQQ4uVjFL-g Nice bit of video here, when we thought we were in the playoffs. Shame there is no commentary though - silly Python song instead
well its almost correct but barnsley needed to win by three clear goals to take boro's place not six as stated on video
Was on the North side of the West Stand for that one. Remember the players coming out in the west upper just behind us and you could tell we hadn't made it, O'Connell looked gutted.
Ah but wasn't it a late Brighton goal that pushed us out? Everyone thought both us and Boro were in the playoffs but Brighton squeezed us out
yes thats correct brighton scored in the dieing seconds against ipswich. we needed to beat boro three nil to take they're place but settled at one nil as brighton i think were losing and that ended any signs of a match from us or boro then brighton scored twice late on
barnsley fans ran on pitch and some were applauding boro fans whilst some were goading them and the boro fans took exception but don't think there was too much trouble. as far as i remember anyway
One of the links on my version of that page is this. Still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
Yep, there game finished after ours and for a glorious couple of minutes we were in the play-offs; then fate stepped in and Dean Wilkins scored a very late goal meaning our celebrations were premature.
Brighton had scored about 5 mins from time. People around us where saying they'd drawn and a guy near us said they haven't they've won, we aren't in playoffs. After just standing on the Ponty for 5 mins we trudged off, never felt so despondent after a win!
I remember going to the FA Cup match at Ayresome in the 80s. We took a fair few fans that day 10000 if I remember right out of a crowd of 35ish? We lost but we got on the telly which wad rare back then
Is that the one where we were 2v0 down and Mike Lester scored? I was at that one. I seem to remember Craig Johnson playing for Boro. They had some great players but we were magnificent.
Yep We were sat (my dad would only sit at matches)in the opposite corner of the ground to the "standers". There were loads of us but the lads gave fantastic support. Pity we lost on the pitch but won on the terraces
Me and my dad were at that one, but we got there a bit late and went in the first gate we came to and ended up with the home fans. Many of them shook my hand as we left the ground at the end and more than one of them said we were the best team to play there all season. Great goal from Mike Lester. what's he doing these days I wonder?
