Three new videos in a week! What a guy hahaha! During the 90s regional football returned to our screens by the mid 90s Sky was about to take over. Just before they did Yorkshire Television had a short lived highlights show called Your Match and this game against Middlesbrough was one of them. Lots going off in this game muddy pitch a half open Oakwell future and former Reds in the Boro side. It's a proper game of football.
Is that the one where Fjortoft scored for Boro? Do I recall Malcolm Shotton playing for us in his late 30's too?
Malc Shotton was as hard as nails, .....word went round that he knocked assistant manager John Deehan out on team bus coming home after a game!
Nice one KT. I remember this game well. Win this and win our game in hand and we can still make the playoffs......ooooh well..... Trust us to finish 6th, when it's only the top 5 make the playoffs
Thanks very much kendraytyke!! I asked a while ago if you had this because it sticks in my mind as an example of what the game used to be like in the good old days. I had the VHS taped off telly but great to see it on Youtube now. The best moment to show how the game has changed is 10 mins in. An O'Connell two foot leg breaker. Boro lad gets straight up. Pats on the back. No commotion. Lenny Lawrence commentary "Foul. No yellow. Quite right referee." It would've been 22 man handbags at 10 paces and a 5 match ban these days!!
It was after the Sheff Utd Cup tie at Bramall Lane... Deehan had a proper shiner on him. I can recall Gavin Talbot from the South Riding shouting him over whilst he was warming up prior to the match. Bit of chit chat, then Gavin started "not what qe heard ...." Derhan called him a c##t and jogged off lol.
The rumor I heard was that it all kicked off on the team coach fists all over place ending with Machin bellowing "you will never play for this club again!"
