I am travelling up to watch us play you lot on saturday. I was wondering how it is looking in South Yorkshite weather wise? Is there a good chance that the game will be called off? EAGLES (blaze)
We never have matches called off. I think the last one was like 12 years ago and before that I can't remember.
RE: depends what its like outside the ground, inside will be fine nt I would imagine that clubs will start to question the cost effectiveness of using their undersoil heating during periods of snow fall, if the games are going to get called off anyway for public safety reasons. Costs an arm and a leg to run.
I'll be suprised if it's off pal ........... ....... had quite a lot of snow today but - we've got undersoil heating; - there's no more snow forecast after today; - the club will want the bit of money that Saturday will generate; - we already have two games to re-arrange in midweek; and - hundreds of South Yorkshire Police officers will want their overtime! ...... even though you could probably police a Barnsley v Palace match with 3 stewards and a Jack Russell!
Wasn't the first time either. There was the time when we were stood outside a closed away end until it was called off for fog at 7:30 pm and we returned for the re-arranged fixture only for Halle to dive.
We had a match called pff in the early 1990's Left college to go to the match and it was snowing as we hit Manchester - took 7 hours to get home. Didn't know match had been cancelled until I got to Wakefield . Then took 1 and half hours to get from town to Smithies</p>
The man is a legend, we are having a poor spell at the moment with 4 straight league defeats (same as you I think). I am hoping we can put that right against you lot, although you have made a few good signings.
I remember when we won 1-0 midweek at your place during the premiership season. Good times lol. He's a character is towd Colin. I like him, but not a lot of people do.
Don't remind me of that. I remember it clearly. It was our first home game and we had just beaten Everton away and then Neil Redfearn scored from about 500 yards :'( :'( We did not win a home game until April
That was the one where, by 7.35, you could see right accross the pitch with no problems IIRC. As soon as the ref called it off the fog lifted as if by magic. People who were arriving at 7.35 thought we were taking the piss when we told them it was off.
I was sitting with 2 mates from London in the Palace end and when Redders scored i couldn't contain my glee - the rest of the game was pretty uncomfortable to say the least!
