Hi lads, I'm looking for some old Barnsley vs. Swans programmes, and was wondering if anyone has any of the following that they'd be willing to part with for a few quid. All are Barnsley homes: 67/68, 73/74, 74/75, 75/76, 76/77, 77/78. Please get in touch either here or by PM if you can help. All the best for the rest of the season too (despite the playoff final robbery! ) Jack
Serious question Jackfish Do you think we did you a favour by winning in the play-off final? Our own manager at the time admitted we had gone up 2 seasons too early, and the fact that we have struggled may prove him right. Do you think that the 2 seasons you stayed down may have been a blessing in disguise, and made you better prepared for the Championship?
Robbery? i think that means the taking of someones property without their consent, not someones inability to hit the back of the net from 12 yards </p>
RE: Serious question Jackfish Never really grasped the logic of 'we went up too early'. Teams cannot pick and choose when they go up so have to take any opportunity whilst it's on offer. If Swansea hadnt have gone up last year do you think they would have taken a 'well, we aren't too bothered because we are not quite ready yet' attitude?
The squad we had last season was far superior to the one that lost the playoff final, and so is our manager, so in that respect yes, it was a good thing we lost. I'm not sure how we would have done the following season if we had gone up, but I definitely think we're better prepared now as you say. Our aim this season is obviously still just to stay up and maybe finish in midtable, but like I said, much better prepared this time round!
I was only joking about the robbery! Our penalties were awful and yours were good. I was more annoyed at your second goal TBH!
I was quoting what the manager said If we had stayed down we would have added more players to the squad, hopefully better ones. That would have better prepared us for the Championship. Of course Swansea would have been happy to go up. The point I was trying to make, was that the 2 extra seasons they had in League 1 allowed them to strengthen their side. It must have worked, as they walked League 1 last year.
