Here we go again.... Sorry for the lack of commentary coverage this afternoon, we were the victims of a lack of isdn points in the Oakwell press box as the demand was unusually high! Subscription fees aside, I think that regular listeners were genuinely spared from what was an awful BFC performance. This is no excuse though, and people shouldn't have been let down in this fashion. PTV weren't to blame on this occasion by the way. It's not my fault or problem, but I thought I should just let World subscribers know how connection was lost and why.
Where is the demand for the points coming from? Other radio stations? Do World fall down the pecking order for them or is not quite like that?
Thanks for that Matt. Out of curiosity, in what order are the isdn points given out? I know it's not your fault and I'm not criticising you, but whoever made the decision to prevent subscription fee members from receiving the service they were paying for wants shooting!
That is bizarre Any more information Matt? Because from what you said it sounds like the club gave the isdn points to everyone else before its own official service that its customers had paid for.
RE: That is bizarre I obviously can't comment in depth as I've been reprimanded for some of my past posts on here. What I will say, is that the plug was pulled on us to allow Dearne FM to broadcast reports, as their ISDN point had been taken by a Swansea broadcaster. I agree that paying customers should not be treated in this way at any time, especially during a game which was as crucial as the one today though!
just further evidence that the club holds its paying customers in contempt. Stronger Together eh? Aye that were a funny one.
From What I Got Told......... Swansea World was better anyway, because they have an ex player as expert summariser which we don't. It's always better to hear the views of someone who's played for us.
Well thats shocking then That the club simply chose not to give its customers the service that they have paid for. I feel sorry for you lot that do the commentary, if its not the manager leaning on you to say nice things its the club choosing to pull you off air.
RE: From What I Got Told......... I won't rise to that Dreamers, but I'm genuinely glad that subscribers were able to receive a good unbiased broadcast from BBC Radio Wales.....whose budget is obviously far greater than Barnsley World's.
It wasn't a knock on you and the team Matt. When I don't go away and we aren't on Radio Sheffield, I listen to the commentary and think everyone does a fine job. It's just you are all fans like the rest of us so more likely to be negative. But having an ex player as part of the commentary (like Swansea with Kevin Ratcliffe) adds to it because they know what it's like to be involved on the pitch.
It was, but being the spineless lovely person he is, he does more back peddling then anyone on this BBS.
Earpieces So what happened to those who'd bought the earpieces. Did they get a commentary feed today?
In which case, this is utter cobblers "Barnsley Football Club are currently experiencing technical problems at Oakwell Stadium regarding the Barnsley World Live feed from the press box. "We are endeavouring to rectify these problems and apologise to supporters for any convenience." By "technical problems" they mean "we've intentionally unplugged it". They could have at least allowed the commentators to explain this and point out the Swansea World feed. One minute Barnsley were lining up a promising free kick the next... nothing.
I thought....
I thought that I'd stuffed it somehow.....it is on at midnight andI'm usually more asleep than awake. I have the laptop next to the bed and an eapriece inserted.... I heard the first goal and then I awoke to find we had lost 3-1. Without the commentary I'm away. It is usually like I'm dreaming the match..... but that might be the same for everyone.

thanks for your service..... I do enjoy it.....

I know when I was there... That one game some 'big' stations came along to a 'big' game and basically unplugged our ISDN and the Oakwell staff were too polite to say anything so we just pulled theirs back out and put ours back in

Barnsley FC are still in the dark ages - ISDN!?? What with broadband and that now why on earth are they not utlising that and wifi? Beggars belief. Bet they still have those analogue phones with the wheel dial too.
