was always going to be a controverial poll.but good luck to Redders because whether he was your greatest player or not, one things for sure he was a great player for barnsley.
He was and is the greatest. He had EVERYTHING! Passion, commitment, desire, will to win, he was a leader, a role model and a terrific footballer.
How long have you been going to Oakwell - he was good, but you should have seen the likes of Tommy Taylor, Danny Blanchflower for greats..
thats why i said it was always going to be controverial.you could also include (glavin,mc'carthy, winstanley etc.but redders was the most recent thats probably why he won it and i for one don' begrudge it.
Redders is a very worthy winner, he led us for years and through our greatest ever season. He was fantastic in the premier league as our captain fantastic. Redders, greatest ever Barnsley player.
redders has won it can't argue with that but the others deserve a mention too when you bring a subject like greatest ever player to the fore.
Re: 30%, was quite a convincing win too to get something like a true reflection you'd have to have apoll just for the over 60s do you think?
I thought it would be ronnie or redders at the top - I personally couldn't separate them. Few players I thought might have made it but didn't - likes of McCarthy, banks etc. I like bobby hassell I wouldn't put him in my top ten.
Re: 30%, was quite a convincing win too That's exactly what I thought. Don't think there was ever any doubt about the winner. When someone asked who my pick was I said Redfearn, but it wasn't really a true reflection as I wasn't attending matches prior to about 95/96.
Re: 30%, was quite a convincing win too problem with that is most over 60's are bias towards the older players No modern day player can ever compare to player back in their day lol
sorry, but redfearn for the younger supporters, but we won't ever see another GLAVIN, had everything, i won't ever see a player comarapable to him in my lifetime.
Re: 30%, was quite a convincing win too and younger fans are'nt? ok then what about so many from 20/35s. 35s/50. 55+ probably get a fairer reflection.although as i want to keep emphasising i take nothing away from redders on this day.
Re: 30%, was quite a convincing win too to be honest though i don't we should have had an official poll like that (Greatest ever Barnsley Player). I think we should have a hall of fame for the greatest players and have a vote every ten years or so who to add to it. and have all the pomp & circumstance to accompany it such as 'evenings with' etc.when i was younger i heard things like you should've seen cec mc'cormack none better harry hough no finer player to grace oakwell and many more.i know these players are part of oakwell history but if we did something like this fans in the future would know they were some player for that generation.
Why is it? He was a great player in a Barnsley shirt and played his best football for us. He also helped to take us to the premier league and was inspirational during our short stay there. That pole was to judge the greatest ever Barnsley player and while the likes of Taylor were great players were they better in a Barnsley shirt for as long as redders? IMHO they weren't.
