My perception of where our club sits in this division based on (a) recent spending, (b) attendances and (c) recent history, is near the bottom ofour currentdivision. I'm not saying this to be contrary, but I can't see how sacking the manager without a large transfer kitty being made available to the next boss will change this. I'd be interested in seeing a 'transfer money in' versus 'transfer money out' table of the Championship for the pre-season just gone. My guess is we'd not be high on the list of those spending more than we'd recouped. Unless a large investment (>£4m)in new playing staff is made, we'll continue to struggle. Changing the manager will not alter this imho.
RE: Barnsley's 'rightful' place...........if there's no money to prime the pump.......... ...........then we are definitly Division 1 We are a club starved of success while directly north and south of us have had years of success We are competing with those teams for football supporters........and even as we write this we are currently locked in negotiations to sell our best player to one of those teams If we cannot get sufficient money invested into the team to prime the pump so it attracts the crowds and thus brings money to the club then we are destined for Division 1
What about the Academy? That has the potential to bring in talent for either selling on or development. Can't just hope to buy buy buy all the time.
Bottom of the spending league: Sheffield Wednesday. And they're in the top 6 currently. Figure that one out. Course, they stuck by Laws when they had a terrible start last season.
