What areas do you consider 'tarn' to cover? Is it just the town centre and immediate surrounding areas or are places like Hoyland, Darton, Cudworth etc still tarn ? I need to know. I'm in Hoyland I consider myself from tarn.
RE: barnsley area is quite a large one nt Yes it is. People outside of barnsley dont realise how big it is, they only think it is a small town.
Tarn is the Town Centre of the Old Barnsley Borough.
I'm a Wombwell lad and I support Tarn, I don't live in 't Tarn.

Agree with JohnnyCoachman outlook. I lived in Shafton and I didn't class it as tarn. I would add that the present Barnsley town centre is a poor shadow of the centre as it was in the 60's. Run down.
Tarn boundary ...was the old Barnsley Borough before it became a Metropolitan District of South Yorkshire on 1 April 1974.
The Borough included Town centre and all the local election wards, plus Monk Bretton, Lundwood, Stairfoot Ardsley Kendray, Old Town, Poggy and Kingstone, Cundy Cross, Worsbrough Common, Wilthorpe, Gawber, Smithies, New Lodge, Athersley, Carlton.
All the outlying areas, eg, From Dodworth westwards, Worsbrough southwards, Barugh and Higham northwards and Cudworth eastwards were under the West Riding County Council and were all administered by Wakefield.
Having said that, as an original Hoylander now living in another part of the extended borough, I have always considered mi sen Barnsley, if not exactly Tarn.

RE: Tarn boundary From Grimethorpe and it was under West Riding County Council, in fact I was born in the house my dad still lives in and my birth certificate says Hemsworth because that was the registration office that covered Grimethorpe, but everyone there considered themselves Barnsley.
dearne towns grew up in bolton , moved to monk bretton when i was 14 .. always considered bolton/goldthorpe/wath as town ... plenty of sheffield and rotherham fans around tho
