Considering knocking thru the bathroom to the separate toilet to create a bigger more up to date bathroom. Thing is the bath & sink are v old style, (cast iron white bath with traditional taps etc. The bath is in need of attention (the enamel has come off so the surface is very scratchy). The taps etc are quality. Sink is the same - good old fashioned china white sink with silver taps. Is it worth restoring/ keeping the bath? Or if not is there any point in trying to sell it on? Bathroom also has large green art deco tiles - everyone who comes in says they are "collectors items" . I hate them. They collect gunge!! Again, if we knock thru, are they worth preserving? Cheers
Personally I wouldn't bother keeping any of it especially if you are trying to make it more up to date. I don't think the enamel repair services work very well (at least they never used to). Don't forget to visit my brother's bathroom showroooms on Donny Road http://www.selectbathrooms.com and Pogmoor Rd. Tell him who you are and I sent you and I'm sure he'll look after you.
If it worth keeping the suite for in your new bathroom? That totally depends on whether or not you want to keep it. It doesn't matter if it's worth 5 quid or 5 grand, if you like the look of it and want it in your new room then keep it, if you don't then get shut and buy a new one. I guess the same goes for selling it. If you want to sell it then you've really got nothing to lose. The question is how much will you be able to sell if for and to answer that you'll have to do some research on the net as to how much similar ones are going for. If you aren't keeping it then you might as well sell if rather than binning it though, even if you only got a tenner for it. And the tiles are tricky. People that just happen to wander into your bathroom (does that happen often? lol) won't know if theyre a collectors item or not purely from looking at them unless theyre an expert. All they can tell is that they look old. You should take a photo of them and email them off to someone that does know what they're talking about. They'll be able to tell you if there's any value in them better than guests at your house can.
Get rid of the lot and replace it with something you really like. no point in keeping something you don't really want; you'll end up regretting it. There's plenty great suites / tiles etc for a lot less than you would think. Shop around, these people are desperate to do deals. Can I come to the opening?
Smash the old one to bits one day with sledge hammer and end all "keeping the old stuff" nonsense. Then you'll have no choice. Shop around for stuff and get 3 or 4 quotes, there's some robbing buggers in the bathroom game.
Looks like a decent place compared to the other shops down there which helps it stand out. Does he advertise round the scoreboard too? Can't really read what any of those ads say from where I sit but I seem to remember a bathroom one.
Fi do not listen to these lot they have no idea of the value of a cast Iron bath they are quite sought after items
Flippin heck!!!! There's a brother!! God, I've only just got my head round you living on my street & not knowing it .... You must have had some top quality in home entertainment!! Cheers for link, will look it up.
Don't worry I'll find the best deal for the outgoing bath. then him indoors will take it to the tip when I'm not looking. (doh)
RE: Fi do not listen to these lot they have no idea of the value of a cast Iron bath Depends on the type? If it's a nice antique roll top or slipper bath in top condition maybe. If its a standard 5 foot 6 straight cast iron bath with the usual damage to the enamel put a hammer through it.
not what my bro in law is saying...and he is in the trade she should be careful of throwing summat decent away here
Who fancy's carrying the bath down the stairs then?? Usually get smashed into 4 when we were taking them out haha. And the tiles.... You'll probably not be able to get them off in one piece anyway love!! Ohh, do you need a fitter? lol
