The phrase 'Battling Barnsley' is coined from another era. An era where money played it’s part but not even a tenth of what it does today. Barnsley were able on a number of occasions to beat so called bigger clubs through greater commitment and desire. Physically, there was little to choose between the Barnsley Teams and their opponents though on many occasions the opponents were technically superior - but still ended up losing.

Sadly, the Championship this season is a totally different league to the one we left only 5 years ago. The 'cancer' of Sky money has effectively made this Premiership 2. The majority of teams are stacked high with physically and technically superior players to ours. Against most of the top teams we need to have every player on top of their game and the opposition to have a real off day. Evened then the gap in technique and physique is so great that the top teams will still usually still beat us. I think the boys in most of the games have battled hard but the days when Battling Barnsley could bridge the gap are sadly long gone.

We can still do it though....there is enough teams down there in a similar predicament to us.

PS - We were talking about the team and not some of the dispassionate fans we have with this comment?!

    Were Derby, Sunderland etc..

and other teams we have no right to be on the same pitch as THAT much better than us?

I don't think they were. If we worked harder and were better organised and actually had belief in OUR OWN ABILITIES rather than being **** scared of the opposition, then we might have got better results...
