Reds wait on injured pair BARNSLEY will hand late fitness checks to Matt Carbon and Stephen McPhail before naming their team for tomorrow's match at Milton Keynes. Oakwell manager Andy Ritchie, whose side broke their away duck at Gillingham in midweek, confirmed today that there is a possibility both men will de declared available for action, but admitted he would have to await their outcome of their tests before reaching a decision. Carbon (groin) and McPhail (calf) were both absent at the Priestfield Stadium but Ritchie said: "We'll be looking at them later today and taking things from there. "We worked hard at Gillingham and we don't want to spoil that at Milton Keynes." With Carbon possibly unavailable, Ritchie will have no qualms about leaving Antony Kay at centre-back. He was outstanding at Gillingham alongside skipper Paul Reid. Kay took the place of McPhail in the previous game - the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest - while Nicky Wroe stepped in as midfield cover on Tuesday night. Martin Devaney was replaced by sub Robbie Williams at Gillingham but looks set to start at Milton Keynes. "Martin Devaney has done well, he'll admit that he's not as fit as he'd like to be but he's getting there," Ritchie said. "He maybe could have got a goal at Gillingham. I asked him to do more of a defensive job there, tucking in and tracking back to watch Andy Hassenthaler, who may be 40, but is still a dangerous, thinking player. I took Martin off in the game to save his legs." Ritchie used Neil Austin as left-back at Gillingham and Dale Tonge was recalled on the right-hand side of the back four. Both played well and look set to retain their places while Ritchie make may changes to his front two. Marc Richards, who has made two appearances as sub, might get his first start since signing a short-term contract.
