Can't believe what I'm seeing. Supported Led Zeppelin at Knebworth. Wheeled out Eric Clapton to play with them on a Christmas TV special. Same evening - on both main channels at once! Can't get me 'ead round this! I must have drunk myself through this period?
I was there when they played knebworth with led zep... Along with south side johnny and the astbury dukes, Todd rungren and captain beefheart.. All a bit ***** until the last act.
What's up with you all? Chas and Dave are just a couple of guys with a sense of humour. What's up with bands finding inspiration from that? They were original. Rabbit is one of the funniest songs ever to hit the top 40. Yes they were cheesy, but they knew it .... Nowt wrong with that if it's Tongue in cheek. I'd love to go to a Chas and Dave concert, and I'd wager id have a better laugh than if I went to a Led Zep concert.
That song sampled Labi Siffre's "I Got The" which Chas and Dave played on (they were session musicians previously).
Same here. I've still got an old chaz and dave album on tape cassette. Not got owt to play it on but that's not the point.
Both well respected folk musicians before they sold out ish to do the comedy stuff, I was once in a pub with them behind sheffield city hall, they were supporting Lindisfarne, i was on the guest list and was chatting with them when this guy rushes in to tell them they should have been onstage 5 minuites ago, they just said, we'll be there once weve finished our pints.....top blokes
"I dont care, I dont care, I dont care if he comes round here I`ve got my beer in the sideboard here let Mother sort it out if he comes round here"
Amazing musicians, very entertaining and great at what they do. Edmonton Green is a fantastic tune. I saw them open for the Libertines & once had the pleasure of sharing a bill with them at a the Mad Pride charity concert in Hackney 10-12 years back. Chas & Dave Live at the Gatehouse is one of my favourite concert films of all time. Really well shot on 16mm, it looks like the Last Waltz. only in a pub!
