We live only about 3 - 4 miles from Scampton so I will be going down to the airfield perimeter to see the Lanc flypast and, they hope, the Vulcan. Don't know if this will happen.
If any of you are interested, in the old village of Scampton, not the site by the A15, there is a pub called The Dambusters.
It is a relatively new pub, converted from an old house and shop a few years ago, but inside it is a treasure trove of memorabilia connected with the wartime air base.
There are photos, log books, models, genuine aeroplane bits and pieces, mostly Lancaster, and a full instument panel from a Lancaster cockpit. The whole place has been made to look and feel very atmospheric.
Above the entrance door outside is a small round window just under the eaves. Looking out from it is a pilot's head in a flying helmet.......... very spooky.
There is also a 4 day beer festival starting today !!
I really hope it is a marvellous success, especially for those old boys who have returned to take part.
Their bravery deserves praise above all things today

We've got a few bits of Lancasters (and Spitfires) here at work - there's a propeller in the canteen for example.

I work in the Jaguar Castle Bromwich plant where many of them were made.
