    Manager: Keith Hill
    Last season: 21st

    Best summer signing: Jacob Mellis
    One to watch: Paul Digby

BBC Radio Sheffield's Andrew Giddings: "Keith Hill's side will have to defy the odds to stay up again, but that is a battle Barnsley face every season at this level.

"Hill's pre-season plans have been hampered by the injury to marquee signing Mido, who looks likely to miss the first three months of the season.

"The Tykes started well last campaign and their brand of football served them well until Christmas but once Ricardo Vaz Te left and Jacob Butterfield (who joined Norwich this summer) got injured, they really struggled. If they can get Mido fit and scoring goals they can survive and that will be their aim."

I don't think we will miss mido that much and with our attacking midfield players combined with the likes of perkins and mellis retaining possesion i think we could do well. Only concern i have is how we will be defensively.

No mention of Drinkwater last season, just as significant as losing Butterfield and Vaz Te.

I think the signing of Harewood (and a promising twenty minutes from - dare I say it - Daggers) has turned Mido into a potentially excellent January signing, which could spruce things up a bit and hopefully help us avoid our annual post-Christmas collapse.

I'm excited about the season (much as I am at the beginning of every season). The first team looks strong enough to survive - I think it's going to be a case of trying to get some points on the board in August and September, and seeing where we are when October starts to bite. If this Cranie character signs that will largely allay my worst fear which, like selby, is currently the defence.
