    Suggestion: -

Guests: During matches, it is no good if the BBS slows down so that none of us have a chance to make posts in real time, e.g. when a goal goes in, great save, penalty etc. McCann's goal today was hardly mentioned as it appeared on the BBC website, Sky, sporting life live table etc before anybody could post anything about it. In normal debates outside of matches it is not too bad (although annoying) if the BBS slows down, but during matches I suggest that non registered users should be excluded.

Invisible Users: Not sure where they come from but can I suggest they are selected for our team in addition to the normal 11 players. They would no doubt be useful in defence making interceptions out of nowhere and they could easily ghost in on the blind side when we are attacking. They are unlikely to be caught offside and would probably turn most games in our favour.

    AGREED!!!

Guests bring nothing worthwhile to the board. Although same could be said about some members on here lol. The main times you want to post on here, you can't so quickly due to traffic.

Me and the missus have had a nice holiday mate, thanks for asking and happy new year to you :D :D :D

Just suggesting a way to speed up the BBS for members during match times when heavy traffic is present. No problem with guests at other times. If the server can be sorted no problem with guests at any time.

    On most football messageboards

guests can't read the boards or are restricted to certain sections. I like that this site is different but it does seem to have an effect on the performance.

    Quality!

In Germany all message boards are state controlled with strict limits on the number of members who are forced to register with their local police force before posting. There are severe fines for insulting other board members, and on football related boards there are strict penalties for booing or criticising players.

I know several people who have done time here for posting things like "Klinsmann Aus!" or whatever.

And, since you asked, no I didn't catch owt :D :D

I dont think restricting guests would work they would still hit the server and still cause load times to increase, then registering causing more load times and also hitting the database further increasing it, methinks its the server that needs look at, its obviously overloaded.

    Maybe you are right

But something has gone wrong - I have been on here about 2 years and performance is noticeably worse at the moment. Something has changed and it reduces enjoyment when you continually get long delays, server error messages, double posts etc.

Apologies to guests if it's not your fault but something needs to be done.

For example, when posting this I got

The website cannot display the page
    HTTP 500
    Most likely causes:
    The website is under maintenance.
The website has a programming error.

    What you can try:
    Refresh the page.

Go back to the previous page.

    More information

This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying.

For more information about HTTP errors, see Help.

I run two forums so i have looked in to performance, and it could be a number of factors, i host one of my forums on VPS (Virtual Private Server) which basically means unlike most hosts out there they dont overstack websites onto servers, however i have a newer forum that i use on a shared hosting account which i suspect this site might be hosted on.

Secondly the host might have changed the percentage of sites they use per server which might have resulted in performance changing over time. Secondly this is a dynamic content website which are more resource intensive than static HTML sites.

Anyways if anyone from Site Admin wants any more info or help on hosting please feel to drop me a PM.

What difference does it make? If you prevent guests and invisible users on then they register and you've still got the same number of people trying to view the board!
I've been having same problems on Digital Spy as well, and usually at the same times!

    Just got back

... to office & it appears I may have been logged on all Xmas!! Ooops. If so I apologise for my part in slowing down the BBS! You could do what I do & get a "proper fan" to text you updates from the game.
Hope you had a good holiday.

So Yesterday afternoon was all your fault then?

I wouldnt worry - if you dont touch anything you arent using any bandwidth, and in any case the system considers you logged off if there is no activity for 30 mins. Your PC being logged on all Xmas wont have made any difference at all

RE: So Yesterday afternoon was all your fault then?

That's a load off! Not sure I could cope with being blamed for the slow down of the BBS! Still must remember to log off at work - don't want anyone knowing what I've been up to!!
