POSITIVES: 1. Keef built his own squad on a small budget. 2. Keef develops players. 3. Keef has managed finances well and it is reported that the club will this year make a small profit. 4. Excellent results in first half of the season mean we are as good as safe this season. 5. Keefs team has at times played the best passing and attacking football I have seen at Oakwell for years. 6. Keef speaks honestly in interviews. 7. Keef has sold players for profit. 8. We have scored 47 goals this season and have two players in double figures for the season (last time that happened was 05/06 promotion year). If Gray bags another couple we will have three. 9. Keef's signings; Vaz Te, Done, Davies, Drinkwater, McNulty, Wiseman, Perkins all decent aquisitions IMHO jury is still out on Dawson, Goldbourne, Nouble and Edwards. NEGATIVES: 1. Second half of the season form has been poor. 2. Injuries and players sales have affected the squad e.g. loss of Butterfield, Drinkwater, Vaz Te and more recently Perkins. 3. Negative tactics, only applies to second half of the season. 4. Inconsistency second half of the season. 5. Lack of transfer activity second half of the season to replace likes of Vaz Te, Drinkwater and Butterfield. SUMMARY: If we can pick up 6pts in the final 9games we are safe and Keef has done a top job! Yes, Keef has made mistakes this year and he know it. But you cannot ignore we have played some good football this season, and he has turned the clubs finances around. Year on year improvement is all I ask and to be entertained and most of the time I have been. Sadly we are going through a poor patch of form and negativity around Oakwell is rife. Finally I would congratulate Keef on the signing of Button. England youth and quality competition for Steele, no offence to David Preece or Lukas Lidakevicus but they haven't exactly pushed him for the No.1 Jersey and you could say Steele has been a little complacent in some games. I full expect Button to start ahead of Steele in some future games.
"Year on year improvement is all I ask" If that's all you ask why are you so pleased? It doesn't look like you're going to get it.
"But you cannot ignore we have played some good football this season," I keep reading this comment now and again but is fast becoming a distant memory.
The club may make a small profit, largely down to the fact that the fee for Shackell will be included in this years accounts. If he had been sold a couple of weeks earlier then Robins season would have been a profit of around £750,000. I think Keef's done a decent job considering the injuries and sale of the clubs topscorer, at the minute it seems we've just got to be content with treading water, in todays financial climate its understandable.
Negatives:- Shocking second half of season We will finish the season on less points than last season We will score less goals than last season We will concede more goals than last season We will lose more games than last season We will probably finish lower than last season I think I'll hang fire before I pop the champagne corks. Out of interest, which players has he developed? Butterfield was playing well at the end of last season and RNL has gone backwards.
Vaz Te, Drinkwater, Butts. O Brien and Steele been more consistant. Digger developing well. Hes improved numerous players if you ask me....
