Difficult one because despite the result I think we played pretty well and only the final ball and/or finishing really stopped us absolutely smashing them. So, no chance of any of the strikers getting my vote. I thought, O'Keeffe was good in the first half, much better than usual - actually beating his man with pace and skill on a number of occasions. Similarly Gent was positive and continues to improve. Nwakali looked the best of the central midfield three and is making a case to be a regular starter. Jalo was bright and positive when he came on and clearly troubled their defence. Likewise Cotter who used his pace and skill impressively. If only Cosgrove could have taken one of the chances they created for him. I think I'm going Earl. Never looked troubled defensively and moved the ball into midfield well on a number of occasions. Genuinely felt for him when he missed the last penalty.
I agree with you about Nwakali and Jalo. Both have bags of talent and would be in my starting line-up at Wrexham. O'Keeffe was surprisingly good in the first half, and there was some excellent skill from Humphrys. Shame he didn't score. Roberts was very good. After a shaky start to the season, when he looked short of fitness, he now looks like the player we sold to Birmingham for £3.5 million. He wins virtually every ball in the air and is solid and dependable on the ground.
as we kept a clean sheet my vote ought to go to a defender, but I will abstain as none stood out for me. It looked to me like the lack of urgency from Bristol Rovers from the kick off suggested to my that their game plan was to get to penalties. It worked a treat. In most other games we would have won by a cricket score. How were were unable to convert at least one of a hatfull of clear cut chances will remain a mystery to me. 3 cliches in 2 sentences, not bad eh?
Nwakali struggled when trying to deal with physical duels I think he lost pretty much every challenge once the ball was in the air but if he’s given a little time on the ball he was effective but I think he’s going to take some time to get used to the physicality side of the English game. Jalo actually had a real impact and caused a team that was playing for pens from the start of the game problems just a shame he couldn’t stick that one further in the corner when he turned and shot and forced the keeper into a save. Difficult to name a player of the match when we had 30 shots yet still ended up losing on pens
