A team shorn of key players and confidence in a first half display that lacked purpose and cohesion flipped a switch for 25 minutes of the second half where we played very well. standouts for me were Nwakali and Russell. Close. It the goal topped off a great performance so Nwakali for me.
Nwakali oozes class. Hopefully he will stay in the team when Phillips is back. Nwakali actually plays like I bemusedly hear Russell’s performances described. He’s by far the best Reds player with the ball at his feet. His composure today when an Exeter player was trying to wrestle him was superb, and his goal was a terrific strike.
Nwakali By a country mile. Killip also gets a mention. He’s such an improvement over the Chelsea lad and was a calming influence on a wobbly outfield defence. Doesn’t always get the recognition he deserves
Can only be Nwakali - best player on the field and started the turnaround with his goal. Honourable mentions too for McCarthy who looked very composed, and Mael. He's had a lot of stick, some of it warranted, some of it harsh. But that bursting run to set up the winner was absolutely sublime, and what he absolutely excels at. If his defensive positioning was better then he'd have clubs much higher up the pyramid queuing up to sign him.
Honourable mentions to mdg, killip, gent, Humphries and Connell but there's obviously only one wiiner. Nwakali, game changer!
