You could tell they are up near the top of the Championship. Our midfield of Berry, Digby & Hourihane were simply outclassed. However, it took a mistake from Hourihane for them to open the scoring and at only 1-0 you're always in the game. They go a man down and Hourihane then clips the bar from the resultant free kick. An undeserved equaliser then and we could've had a totally different end to the game. However, we never got another sniff and they wrapped up the match when their player scored with a free header from a corner. Thankfully, we won't play a team as good as Boro again this season. Onto our home game with Yeovil next Saturday, with perhaps a couple of new signings and possibly one or two returning from injury.
Given the same opportunites, I believe Winnall would've notched at least one from the chances they created.
I felt ok after the performance. I looked at Ramage, Hourihane, Berry, Jennings and they looked black and blue, shattered and out on their feet. Young ins also did OK especially Holgate. Given the experience of our squad today i was satisfied with the performance. although always disappointed with any loss.
Let's be honest. It was men against boys. Middlesbrough totally controlled the game,we never got a sniff. Hourihane had a poor game, Digby was anonymous as was the rest of our midfield. We didn't close them down,Harry them or get in their faces. I know they are a good championship side, but our performance was disappointing.
Sensible & rational? ME? Thank you for your comments, mate, but I doubt my family would agree with you!
Middlesbrough never got going today. We weren't outclassed, they never got going and never had to. Game of opinions I guess. I was there with my lad in the east stand, and my mothers fella in the away end, he's from boro. He was of the same thought as me in the car journey home. They never got going, boro. They gave the ball away a lot, but it didn't matter as we invariably gave it them straight back anyway. Today was unacceptable in my eyes, being a worse footballer is fine given the difference in class but they didn't even try to work hard and cover the space. Even when they went down to ten they always had two in space, and it wasn't their movement creating it, but our lethargy and laziness. I thought the lads at full back and ramage could hold their heads up, and lita up top worked hard with no support. The midfield though should get naughty boys training in the morning. The whole lot of them. Hourihane was awful, berry is allegedly a footballer though I'm yet to see evidence. Digby I don't see making it long term, Hemmings is out of his league. Dale Jennings had a midfield player (whitehead) forced to play full back after the first minute to beat one on one, and did a few times. And then gave the ball away or got the first man every time, except for one shot on target which was down the keepers throat.
not really the way i saw it. they were ok. nothing more than that. didn't need to be though. as quickly as they gave the ball away, they got it straight back. they didn't put us under massive pressure to regain possession. they just got it back anyway. we saw to that. granted, they were the better team. and i'm sure they would have found more gears if they needed to. but we did little to nothing to give them a game today. we were rubbish.
I thought Boro never got out of second gear, rarely wasted possession and were comfortable throughout. For me, they were far better than us all over the park and we were outclassed.
