Scapegoat and I reckon he's been dropped because Maclaren was at Man Utd during the big fall out. I think it's our new England manager's first mistake !!

Time to move on. He's pushing 32, same age Redders was when he played for us. European contest is 2 years away. We need to be looking at younger people for the top places.

Everybody's sell by date has to arrive sooner or later.

    RE: Disagree

I'm not an England fan, so my opinion probably doesn't count.

For me, though, Beckham has always been 'only' a good player, and not the elemental force that the media portray him as.

There are better options down the right side of midfield - well, there's Lennon. Wouldn't risk Wright-Phillips.

In terms of all-round play, though, Lennon or Beckham?

I'd go with Lennon. Enough pace to scare defenders, his best years in front of him.

What do I know, though? Bugger-all, really!

I suppose you're right, and we need to move on...... I just think he has a lot to offer but long term, I think you're right .

There is no right or wrong, really.

We only opine based upon our observations - it's not a science or a rigid discipline.

It's probably the case that there are as many valid reasons for keeping Beckham as omitting him.

One thing is for sure - the pressure will be on to re-instate Beckham should England come off worst in the Greece friendly next week!

I agree that Beckham has been made a scapegoat for Englands poor world cup performance, but this is more by the press than McClaren. I think we will see him back in squad when he is fit. There were worse players than Becks in Germany ala Lampard who does not seem to turn up when it matters. He went missing in World cup and in Champions League v Barca.

100% agree about Lampard, if anyone needed a kick up the arse to be dropped, then he did. I think the FA were hasty in appointing Mac the knife, and have backed themselves up by getting Venables involved.

Right decision to drop him, but wrong decision to drop him altogether

    too slow for the wing

still a world class central midfielder, should be used as back up for Gerrard/Lampard

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

John Salako reckons we should have dropped him ages ago.

I'll take his opinion over yours, any day.

    Agreed.

Both Lennon and possibly SWP are better wingers.

I was happy to see McClaren drop him - but if there is a place for Phil Neville then it appears to be more of a personal decision rather than a footballing one.

    I think he has

McClaren said that he wasnt in his plans.

Personally I think we have struggled to have Gerrard, lapmpard and Gerrard in the team at the same time - the balance is wrong. But surely Beckham should be on the bench.

I agree with those who go for the drop him from the first 11 but not the squad.
