Share on linkedin 0 THE VICTIM of last night’s shooting in Wath has been named as local hero Tyrone Woodhead. Police officers were called to a house, next door to the Everest takeaway on Doncaster Road in Wath, at 8.40pm last night after the ambulance service received reports of a man with a gunshot wound. Mr Woodhead (42) was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where his condition remains unchanged. The delivery driver, who works for Longleys Building Supplies, made the headlines in 2006 when he stepped in to try and save Doreen Corbett, who was being stabbed by Philip John Stier on West Street, Wath. The mother-of-five never regained consciousness after the attack and died from her injuries. Stier, of Keswick Road, Darton, was jailed for life in 2007 and Mr Woodhead was given a police commendation for his “brave actions”. A colleague at Longleys described Mr Woodhead as a “hard worker who was well-liked”. A neighbourn, who did not wish to be named, described Mr Woodhead as being “well-known in the area” and a “nice character”. He added: “It is shocking. People are really shaken up by this. This area is not a trouble spot although there are a lot of people going up and down the alley near where it happened. “People have gone to work as usual, life goes on, but it’s certainly shocked people living near by.” Detectives have not revealed which hospital Mr Woodhead is being treated at. Anyone in the Doncaster Road area between 8.15pm and 9pm last night is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 1146 of 20 September, if they have seen anything suspicious.
