But it seems that Manchester United, you know, one of those big teams who are always complaining that they have to play too many games and, you know, field weakened sides in the League and FA Cups (actually, there's an argument that they've been fielding a weakened side ever since Fergie left, but that's another story!), well, as they haven't qualified for Europe and threw away their League Cup run by fielding said weakened side they have a lot of free midweeks, so... They're using this time to do additional training to get back to the standard they were under Fergie. The players are going to give up their spare time doing the extra training and more community work, taking training sessions at local schools and youth clubs, working with local homeless charities and even helping out the club's back office team to get an understanding how other club employees aren't as pampered as themselves and to come up with ideas to improve and cheapen the cost of the fan's matchday experience... ...no, hang on, they're using the spare midweeks to jet off overseas to play lucrative friendlies which will help them flog more shirts and increase the worldwide 'brand' (like when they cynically sign average players from emerging world markets to increase fan interest in those countries). Presumably these games and this travelling to the middle east won't have the impact on the fatigue of the poor little players that an away trip at Southend would have in the League Cup or fixtures against teams like Burnley, Blackpool and Reading, who don't really belong in what should be a 12 team Premier league would have. Makes me fecking sick.
I always think when reading these, if Barnsley was in a position to and did this would you moan... No! so don't moan about other teams doing the same
I wouldn't want them doing it. If they get injured playing a competitive fixture or in training that's bad enough, but picking up an injury or fatigue flying around the world just to play against some random side? No thanks.
I would actually, because I personally can't stand what football has become. A few pre-season friendlies to get the players fit, fair enough, but this plan is motivated by nothing other than money. And it's hypocritical, being that they are one of the teams who moan about the fixture pile up. I wouldn't want my club to start acting like that, in much the same way that I am uncomfortable at the amount of diving and play acting that some of our current crop of players seem to be doing.
But surely them playing friendlies isnt harming you or I or Barnsley or anyone else one little bit. The only people affected are man utd.
