What a disappointment. Not the venue, they've done what they can with what is essentially a hole in the back of the stand. BUT. . . At half past seven there can't have been more than twenty folks in there. There were two members of staff behind the bar, and it took ten minutes to get a drink as both were involved in making coffee, then both were involved in pouring pints.. I.e one had to lift a keg, whilst the other poured the beer...... Its been devoid of atmosphere each time I've been in. I'm not saying this to criticise the Trust, who evidently are making good efforts to get folks in, but the question has to be asked, why? Why make it members only? Have a limit on numbers at the door, and manage it like the old social club used to be managed. Surely a one in, one out on match days would be far better. Folks are not in the habit of using the place, because of the stupid membership fee. Just scrap it. The place has a lot going for it ... Location for a pre match beer, real ale, and sky tv throughout ... But no one goes in because they've been eliminated. No kids, no non members. Capacity say 100 people, one in one out, managed by the trust, get a member of staff over from the concourse to serve beers , cos they re not busy pre match over there. Get some life into the place.
spot fecking on... almost. The trust should have pushed for no paid membership but I'm afraid on the whole its an elitist bunch. No pebs and all that.
i was in there last night and was at the bar probably at the same time as you(barrel juggling bit) ive just made a member my opinion was it beats drinking under east stand hands down got to agree about the atmosphere tho, with them it would be good if members could take a guest in with them
You're right, it does beat drinking in the East Lower, but it doesn't come close to meeting up with mates in town..... And the silly thing about it is ... Where would be the most convenient place to meet anyone ahead of a game? The bar at the ground. Not only could it be a nice place to meet folks, but it could also bring the club some revenue. What is the membership cost? They can't have sold many ... Just get rid of the membership, make it open entry, until a comfortable capacity is reached, and get some staff on. Even if the capacity was say 60 - 70 people (I'm sure it could be more), there could be an atmosphere in there, particularly with a live game on tv.
